Artistic Staff
Douglas Anderson – Artistic Director
Doug is the Executive Director of Town Hall Theater, Inc., which has restored and reopened Middlebury’s historic theater. Recent directing projects include all of OCM’s productions starting with Carmen in 2004 through The Barber of Seville in 2009; Forever Plaid and Smokey Joe’s Cafe for Town Hall Theater; Falsettos, Company, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy and The Wild Party for Middlebury College; and workshops of new musicals at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Cleveland Playhouse. In a prior life, he was head writer on the CBS daytime drama, Guiding Light. In January 2007, he directed and co-wrote RiddleLikeLove (with a side of ketchup), which appeared off-Broadway at the Ensemble Studio Theater. Most recently, he directed The Music Man for the Middlebury Community Players. Doug lives in East Middlebury with his wife, Debby.
Emmanuel Plasson – Music Director
Emmanuel Plasson has established himself as a leading ambassador for French music through his remarkable international career spanning both the symphonic and operatic worlds. He made his North American debut in 1997 conducting the Royal Ballet of Covent Garden on tour including performances at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. This resulted in an immediate invitation as Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera for productions of Manon and Carmen. He recently appeared at New York City Opera conducting Chabrier’s L’Etoile to critical acclaim, following his debut at the NYCO in 2005 with Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles. Emmanuel began his musical studies as a violinist. Son of the renowned French conductor Michel Plasson, he began formal conducting studies at the Pierre Monteux School in Maine, U.S.A., and continued his training at the Yale School of Music. Mary Longey – Production Manager
Mary Longey, Production/Stage Manager, has produced and stage managed for OCM since its first opera in 2004. She has served as Secretary on the Board of Directors for Middlebury Community Players and as Stage Manager and/or Producer since 1999 for several musicals for the Players as well as for Town Hall Theater, Inc. She currently volunteers as the general Production Stage Manager for Town Hall Theater. Mary prefers theater and music to her day job (although she would miss ‘managing’ at Mary Hogan School where she has been Administrative Assistant since 1988).
