Our inaugural chamber music concert explores this year's festival theme through works that illuminate composers living under oppressive regimes, characters confronting profound personal struggles, and music that embodies tension, resilience, and hope. Guided by Maestro Filippo Ciabatti, this program spans masterpieces by Bach, Purcell, Schumann, and Shostakovich, works by Rebecca Clarke, Jessie Montgomery, Shelley Washington, and George Walker, and arrangements by Vermont composers Matthew LaRocca and Kyle Saulnier. Featuring the OCM Festival String Quartet: Concertmaster Brooke Quiggins, violin; Joana Genova, violin; Stefanie Taylor, viola; and John Dunlop, cello, and mezzo-soprano Claire McCahan and baritone Adam Richardson from the Rappahannock County production. Plus, join us for an enlightening pre-concert talk with OCM Board Member and Middlebury College musicologist Dr. Danielle Simon.
